Welcome Back to Melissa's Studio BILL SPRINKLE'S ART One of several super students who have worked with me ever since I began teaching art at the new PCC Willow Creek center is Bill Sprinkle, a retired art teacher. Bill had taken a long break from painting and our little Artist's Group fired him up again. The man can't not teach, which is great because the artists in the class get good feedback from more than one source. I tell him I'm glad he lets me keep the salary. ![]() Bill's painting style is to usually paint the whole canvas black, and build up the colors from dark to light slowly. This is what gives his paintings such depth and contrast. He's quick and prolific and we all learn when he stops to lean his painting against the wall to see it from a distance. These wonderful paintings appear gradually before our eyes. ![]() The other fun thing about Bill is his habit of checking the Goodwill Surplus store every morning for art supplies. When he finds the giant bags of assorted cool stuff for $6, he sells them to me and I share them with students at PCC and the NAMI center. He also built an awesome paint cabinet for NAMI, from wood scraps he had in his workshop. It's perfect and the students love the luxury of picking lots of colors from the color-wheel-arranged chest. We call him Art Santa and look forward to his energy, enthusiasm and willingness to share his knowledge (and paint) every week. Keep creating! ![]() |
